Treat your skin to a fragrant Rooibos tea steam, and your complexion will thank you! Many of the health and wellness benefits of Rooibos tea can be enjoyed not only when sipping hot or iced Rooibos tea, but when using the tea topically, as well.
A Rooibos tea steam is a relaxing way to pamper yourself after a stressful day, and it will provide a wealth of benefits for your skin, too! Steaming with Rooibos tea is good for skin health, and your skin will look younger, brighter, and firmer afterwards.
A natural exfoliant, a Rooibos tea steam will also smooth and soften your complexion.
And, Rooibos' anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties will ease the discomfort and itch of inflamed or irritated conditions (like blemishes, eczema, rashes, and sunburn).
Even more - this steam will reduce and cleanse pores, soothe rosacea and sensitive skin, and help manage excess oil.
Place the bowl or pot on a table or countertop (somewhere where you can relax comfortably while you steam). Pour the hot water into the bowl, and then add the loose Rooibos or Rooibos teabags. Cover the tea, and let it steep and cool slightly, for about 10 - 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, wash your face with a gentle cleanser, removing any makeup. And, if you have longer hair, you may want to pin or clip it back from your face.
When the Rooibos tea is steaming slightly and still quite warm (but not hot enough to cause a burn!), set the timer for 10 minutes.
Drape the towel over your head and tuck it around the bowl, as well, forming a tent to enclose the steam. If the steam is uncomfortably hot, let the tea cool a bit more, and then try again.
If you are using a facial steamer, you won't need to use a towel to trap in the steam. You can simply strain the tea, pour the suggested amount into the facial steamer, and then carry on with your lovely steam according to the instructions that came with the steamer.
Close your eyes (and keep them closed) and relax as you enjoy your steam! Keep your face about 8 to 10 inches away from the tea, and enjoy your tea steam's benefits for 10 minutes or so. Lift the towel whenever you need to take a breath of fresh, cool air.
And, if you begin to feel uncomfortable or overheated at any time, simply remove the towel and carry on with your steam, or end your tea steam early. Sometimes a tea steam can cause your nose to run a bit, so you may want to keep a box of tissues nearby, just in case! :)
Once you've finished your steam, rinse your face with cool, clean water and gently pat it dry. Apply a soothing toner to ensure any left-over debris is removed from your pores, and then apply your favorite moisturizer.
